As for the cuisine, the restaurants serve international and local fare. At night, in the bars and nightclubs you’ll enjoy reggae, Afro-Caribbean music and some American and Mexican favorites until the wee hours of the morning.
Contoy & Holbox
Are other islands in the state. Quintana Roo is highly known by their islands. Cancun, Cozumel and Isla Mujeres are the most remarkable ones. However, these two other islands are more than worthy to visit.
Contoy is a virgin island about 45 minutes from Isla Mujeres. The only possibility to get there is by boat. It’s a natural federally-protected nature reserve were you’ll find a wide variety of marine life as well as different species of birds. A tour is recommended and it may include beverages and box lunch. If you’re interested in a local speciality, a “tikinchic” fish can be grilled rusticly on the beach. This full-day excursion also includes fishing and snorkeling. With a federal permit you can plan “camping” in the sea shore.
Holbox is located three hours from Isla Mujeres by boat or two and a half by car from Puerto Juarez. There you’ll find a replica of Isla Mujeres about 40 years ago and small ecological charmy hotels to stay. Also famous for its local taste, friendly people, sandy streets, lobster pizza and mainly for the whale shark tour. If you decide to hop around from one magical island to another magical island you’ll find that each has a unique and laid back ambience to enjoy. Our Concierge is more than happy to assist you.
